Boulderdash!

I now present to you... my third year CalArts film, Boulderdash.

Voiced by the fabulous April Crowel. the film placed 2nd at the CalArts Producers Show.

Topical for its time, its a little dated now. This dramatization is loosely based on an incident that happened to my wife when she was a girl. The street she walks down is a stylized version of the street I grew up on. And the school is a stylized version of my Junior High School. I was a big fan of Tim Burton, so his influence is seen in the reoccurring use of spirals.

Fun little film to make.

Boy and His Blob ~ Enemy Pencil Test

Animating for games is pretty fun. Each assignment is like a little animation exercise. Here is a trot animation I did for A Boy And His Blob:

And here is the final animation as it appears in the game:

I have to say, A Boy and His Blob is one of the most beautiful games we ever made at WayForward.

Game Animation Demo Reel

To kick this blog off with a bang, I'll start with this demo reel showcasing some of the animations I did for these last 5 years. These were done while I was head of animation at WayForward making games for the Nintendo DS, and the Wii.

Between the DS requiring very low poly characters and the animations being shrunk down to the tiny DS screen size, these are tricky to animate and have read clearly.

WayForward was a good gig while it lasted, but it time to be moving along.
